The Abbey Resort

The Abbey Resort is located 15 minutes from downtown Lake Geneva in Fontana, WI. It is the only full scale resort and spa that is right on the shores of Geneva Lake and a family favorite of ours! To read my full post about all of the AMAZING amenities click here.
Pool Situation: The Abbey has two indoor pools that are open year round and two outdoor pools that are open during the summer.
Main indoor pool: included with your reservation
- The large pool is 5 ft deep and normally filled with families and kids playing with water balls and pool noodles.
- There a there is also a hot tub, small kiddie pool with water spray/mini slide and simple locker room area with bare bones showers, bathrooms and lockers.
- Towels are provided by the staff in the pool area and there are plenty of lounge chairs.
Insider tip: There is also an arcade and mini movie theater right next door to the pool so bring cash because once they kids see it you won’t want to have to run back to your room for money!
Adult Only Spa Pool: For adults only there is a brand new beautiful pool at the onsite Avani Spa that I HIGHLY recommend!
- It is super relaxing, with a complementary hot tea/coffee area, two lap lanes, a whirlpool and a coed infrared salt room. Whether you want to exercise or relax there is something for everyone.
- To access you can either purchase a spa service or pay $35.00 a person for a day pay (if there is availability).
- If you are having an adult only vacation this is the choice you should make to maximize your time to recharge (away from the more noisy main pool).
Insider tip: If you purchase a spa day pass you can also take advantage of the fitness area and dressing room amenities, including a steam room, hot tub, another salt room in the woman’s side, and relaxation area featuring a fireplace.
Outdoor Pools: The Abbey Resort and Spa also has 2 outdoor pools.
- One for families with two small water slides and basketball court, hot tub and kiddie splash pad.
- The other is an adult only basic pool but there is an outdoor bar between the two so you can enjoy an adult beverage no match which you decide to enjoy.

Grand Geneva Resort and Spa
This luxury resort and spa was formally the old Playboy club and is 10 minutes from downtown Lake Geneva. Even though the property is not on the lake the abundance of activities (horseback riding! archery! scooter tours! their own ski hill!), accommodations (main resort or villa options), and restaurants keep this resort consistently in the Top 5 Best Places to Stay around Lake Geneva. (Check out full info HERE.)

Pool Situation: 2 indoor pools and 1 outdoor pools to enjoy.

This medium sized water park features two water slides, basketball hoops, lily pads, a lazy river and toddler/preschool area with indoor snack bar that serves adult beverages.
Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark

The 50,000 square foot indoor/outdoor waterpark at this family focused resort is the main attraction and reason why it is listed as one of the Top 3 Lake Geneva Resorts for Families!
Pool situation: The medium sized indoor/outdoor waterpark was perfect (not to overwhelming yet plenty to do). The indoor water park is heated to a nice 86 degrees so comfortable o matter what time of year. There are two large slides, a lazy river, a basketball hoop area, a lily pad area and a children’s section with small slide, water tables, and a swing, for the little ones. There is also a snack bar serving kid focused dishes and adult beverages! Towels are provided by the resort.

Insider tip: Adult guests have access to the adult only lap pool at the Well Spa, located at the sister resort, the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa. (Timberidge guests do not have access to the other main/outdoor pools at the Grand Geneva.)
My family had a great time and opted for the two bedroom suite with full kitchen, fireplace and pull out sofa. The resort even decorated our door and had balloons waiting when we arrived since it was my son’s birthday (for a small fee but worth it!). The food at the resort is not that great so I would head offsite for a meal or two and check out one of these top 7 Best Restaurants with a Lakeview!

The Cove of Lake Geneva

This all suites resort is located one block from main street (in downtown Lake Geneva) where you can take advantage of all of the boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops and ice cream shops. You can also walk to the Lake Geneva Public Beach, stroll to the Rivera building and hop on one of the famous Lake Geneva Boat Tours, or rent a boat, paddleboard, or kayak and get on the water yourself.
The location, multiple bedrooms, fully stocked kitchens, fireplaces and delicious on site restaurant (Lake City Social) make this a popular option for visitors year round. For full details of why this is one of the top 5 best resorts in Lake Geneva click here.
Pool Situation: 1 indoor pool, 1 outdoor pool with pirate play area
Indoor Pool: Standard large pool with hot tub (located next to the arcade!). My kids had a blast and the pool was large enough it did not feel crowded.
Outdoor Pool: The Cove has the largest outdoor pool in downtown Lake Geneva. It includes an oversized adult pool, zero-depth children’s pool and play area, hot tub, cabana bar, cabanas for rent, and lifeguards.

The Ridge Hotel
The Ridge Hotel is located 15 minutes from downtown Lake Geneva and overlooks the 2nd smaller lake, called Lake Como. The hotel offers king/queen rooms as well as a few 1 bedroom suites making it a good option for both families and adults.
Pool situation: 1 indoor pool and 1 outdoor pool area
Indoor pool: Open year round and includes whirlpool and coed sauna and steam room.
Outdoor pool: This is the real gem! The expansive outdoor area includes a beautiful saltwater pool, hot tub, cabanas for rent and large outdoor bar area for summery cocktails and snacks.
Insider tip: You can rent paddleboards and kayaks (dog friendly!) right at the hotel and get out on the lake. They also normally have yoga classes on the weekend, and a delicious Italian restaurant on site.
