It’s official Lake Like a Local is now covering Delavan, Wisconsin!
As someone whose family has been in the Lake Geneva area since the 1930s, I’ve spent a lot of time exploring this corner of Walworth County. And let me tell you, Delavan has some many great things to do and places to eat you will want to explore this beautiful lake town less than 20 minutes from downtown Lake Geneva Wi.
So why Delavan? Because it has a slower pace and more same small-town charm but with its own stories, flavors, and history you don’t want to miss.
From peaceful lake mornings to circus-era architecture and some of the friendliest small business owners you’ll ever meet, Delavan WI is full of surprises and now I get to share them with you.
Why I’m Excited About Delavan Wisconsin
I’ve always said the best spots are the ones only a local would tell you about and Delavan is packed with them.
We’re talking:
- 🛍️ Locally owned shops tucked into historic buildings downtown—perfect for antique hunting, handmade gifts, and browsing on a slow Saturday.
- 🐟 Waterfront dining and cozy cafés that serve everything from classic Friday fish fry to flaky house-made pies.
- 🗓️ Weekend itineraries for couples, families, and girls’ trips (you know I love a good itinerary).
- 🎶 Seasonal fun like live music at Phoenix Park, 4th of July parades, and hidden lake access points you can picnic next to.

Our First Stop: Where Elephants Once Walked
Did you know downtown Delavan used to be the Circus Capital of the Nation? Elephants literally paraded down the streets here, and the legacy is still alive in the murals, museums, and old circus wagon shops. I took a stroll through downtown this week, grabbed a locally roasted coffee, and ducked into a few antique stores where I definitely could’ve spent all day.
This is just the beginning.
